Need a single shot!

It was early antlerless season. My son was in to hunting this year. We were hunting together.
I was pretty happy about that.
I have 1 boy & 3 girls. My husband, & the kid's father, died in a car accident in 2002. So it was me that took the kids out to kill their 1st deer.
My son would get his. I would shoot after that.
He got his on Sat. evening.
We were out Sun morning. A fawn came out but I wasn't shooting fawns.
Out came a doe. I fired with my 30-06. I thought I missed. My gun jammed. My son handed me his 270. I saw the deer again. I fired 1 shot.
We got out of the stand. My doe was on the ground dead. She must have fallen & I didn't see her.
About 10 yards from her was another one. Dead!
I had fired 1 shot from each gun. I didn't mean to kill 2 deer. What a shock!
Luckily we had tags for them both.
From now on, I think I will stick with 1 shot. I doubted my shot & I shouldn't have.
I've been shooting guns since I was 8 years old.
